A LIFE HISTORY OF ACHARYA PRAFULLACHANDRA

   PRAFULLACHANDRA  ROY  
  
   Acharya Prafullachandra Roy was born on August 2,1861 in Khulna now in Bangladesh. He studied at Hare School in Kolkata. He got the scholarship from the Metropolitan College,Kolkata and went to England. He did his B.Sc. and D.Sc. from England. He was a professor of the Presidency College. Roy was a learned professor of chemistry. He became famous for his invention of a nitrate of mercury. He had a strong nationalistic spirit. He founded the Bengal Chemicals in 1900-the first national industry in kolkata. The Acharya led a very simple life. He loved his students dearly and helped them with money. He breathed his last on the 16th of July, 1944. The teacher left behind a large number of students. Many of them became successful scientists in later life.
