The Life Of Rabindranath Tagore

RABINDRANATH TAGORE     

    Rabindranath Tagore was the greatest poet of India. He was born in Kolkata on the 6th May in 1861. He came of a rich Jamindar family of Jorasanko. The Tagore family was a seat of culture of the city. Rabindranath was a poet from his boyhood. Besides poems, he wrote novels, dramas, short stories, essays and hundreds of songs.
He won the Nobel Prize in 1913 for his poems, Geetanjali. He had endless love for life, beauty and the country. The poet founded the Viswa Bharati at Santiniketan in 1902. He gave up Knighthood in protest against the killings at Jalianwallabag by the British. The great poet passed away on August 7, 1941. He was loved and honoured all over the world as 'Viswakabi'. We ever remember him through 'Rabindra Sangeet' and 'Pachishey Baisak'.
