Arsenic Pollution

     ARSENIC POLLUTION

Arsenic pollution is a major problem in west Bengal in recent times. Arsenic is generally found in the lower levels of
underground water. In summer the underground water level goes down and people have to consume the water of the lower layers. Besides drinking they use it for other domestic purposes. As a result people suffer from different skin diseases like gangrene, skin cancer and so on. Districts of Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia and South 24 Parganas are the worst affected areas. Some countries like Bangladesh, Thailand are also facing this problem. People of the arsenic polluted areas are to be made aware of its danger. Water must be boiled and distilled before drinking. The government and NGOs have been working to save the valuable lives from this extremely poisonous substance.
