Satyajit Ray was the greatest film-maker in India. He came of a cultured family of kolkata. His father Sukumar Roy and grandfather Upendra Kishore Roy were well-known authors of children's literature. He studied at presidency college and went to Santiniketan to take lessons on art. Ray made some famous films,'Pather panchali','Charulata','Agantuk',etc.His screenplays were highly praised everywhere. He wasagreat film director and a writer of prose. He was well-versed in Western music. His 'Professor Shanku','Feluda',etc. are liked by the people of all ages. Ray was honoured with the highest national award 'Bharat Ratna' and the international prize-Oscar. His death on the 23rd of April, 1992 was a great loss to the filmdom.
