Deforestation

 Deforestation

Even a century ago, forest occupied a large expanse of the total land surface of the world. It provided us shelter, kept up the supply of oxygen and brought about rainfall. But progress of civilisation has resulted in destroying the forest world. Trees were felled for urbanisation. This continuous act of deforestation led to the extinction of many botanical and zoological species. Deforestation leads to soil erosion, irregular rainfall and global warming. Now we have been realising that a severe disequilibrium in ecology has been brought about by deforestation. So, now afforestation is the only way out. Today on a particular day of the year we celebrate Tree Plantation Day to make people aware of the importance of afforestation.
